As a sole practitioner, Linda offered her insight into the process, challenges and rewards facing planning and design professionals seeking certification as a women-owned business enterprise (WBE) in NYC. The lively panel discussion, moderated by Tiffany-Ann Taylor of NYCEDC, included Bomi Kim, NYCEDC, urban planners Larissa Ortiz and James Johnson-Piett, and landscape architect, Linda Barie Gumeny. The event, sponsored by the APA NYM Diversity Committee in partnership with NYCEDC and the NY chapter of ASLA, was a great opportunity to share experiences and inspire future entrepreneurs. Bottom line - the City is very supportive, and can shepherd you through the process in about 3 months; the State is an extremely long process, so start early.
